Baby’s death by drug poisoning ruled homicide, Baltimore police say
State doctors determined this month that a baby died last October due to drug poisoning, Baltimore police said Monday.
Homicide detectives are investigating the death of 1-year-old Messiah Heggie, the department said in a news release.
Police said Northern District officers went to a hospital around 4 p.m. on Oct. 27 after being called about a baby’s death.
Medical staff declared Messiah dead shortly after he arrived at the hospital that afternoon, according to police.
Pathologists with the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Friday ruled Messiah’s death a homicide, finding the baby died from drug poisoning. Police did not specify what type of drugs.
Police encouraged anyone with information about Messiah’s death to reach out to homicide detectives by calling 410-396-2100 or, if the caller wishes to remain anonymous, by dialing 1-866-7LOCKUP to leave a tip.
