Frost continues to threaten parts of the Pacific Northwest

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Frost continues to threaten parts of the Portland-Vancouver area as the spring season continues.
Sensitive plants could see the greatest impacts Tuesday night to Wednesday morning as temperatures dip into the mid to low 30s. The National Weather Service out of Portland has issued a Frost Advisory for much of western Oregon and southwest Washington.
Clearing skies from the exit of a lower pressure system is the cause of this mid-season cold snap. The lack of cloud coverage Tuesday night will help cool conditions enough for frost to form near the surface.
Despite several days already climbing into the 70s this spring season, frosty conditions have been recorded as late as May 2, 1964.
This late season cold snap could cause damage to some sensitive plants that have already started to bud. Planters and potted plants should be moved indoors Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. If plants can't be moved, covering them with towels, blankets, sheets, or turned over and empty pots will help reduce the threat of frost damage.
