NBA fans savagely roasted Shannon Sharpe for a terrible take on the Thunder
If you had to guess, how many Oklahoma City Thunder games do you think Shannon Sharpe has watched this season?
If I’m being completely honest, I’m setting the over/under at five. And that feels like it might be a little generous because there’s just absolutely no way that Sharpe was tapped into that many Thunder games this year with all that he has to do.
And that’s totally fine, by the way! There are a lot of NBA teams that play every single night. Sharpe is in a position where he has to cover them all along with a bunch of other things from other sports. So there’s no shame in not being able to watch Thunder games frequently.
I guess it’s presumptuous of me to think that Sharpe hasn’t watched many Thunder games this year. But that’s honestly the only way I can imagine someone coming up with this hot take he pulled out on First Take today.
Sharpe called the Thunder the “weakest” No. 1 seed the NBA has seen in a long time. Yes, seriously. Of course, this was during a conversation about the Lakers.
“Do you actually think the OKC Thunder is going to make it all the way to the Western Conference [Finals]? Do you think they fear the OKC Thunder having home court? ” Sharpe said. “This might be the weakest No. 1 seed in the NBA. … This is the weakest No. 1 seed that we’ve seen in a very long time.”
See what I’m saying? You can’t have this take while watching Thunder games this year.
The Thunder have the No. 1 seed in the toughest Western Conference we’ve seen in years. This is the same Thunder with a 7.3 point differential good for second-best in the NBA. The Lakers might not “fear” Oklahoma City, but that doesn’t mean the Thunder aren’t great. They’re also better than the Lakers.
Fans roasted him for this. Deservedly so. This is a wild take.
