ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Monday, April 22 is Earth Day. Leaders in Albany highlighted the city's ongoing efforts to address climate change.
The city first established an Office of Sustainability 14 years ago. Officials said they have already taken significant steps to address climate change.
The city has converted 10,000 street lights to LEDs and spent $11 million to install electric vehicle charging stations. Officials believe the city is moving in the right direction.
"Sustainability, we look at it, is how are we going to leave the world as when we leave it for our future, our children, grandchildren, and the folks that come after us," Albany Water Department Commissioner Joe Coffey.
Other upcoming projects include cleaning up sewer discharges in the Hudson River near Lincoln Park and removing lead service lines from older buildings.
