VOORHEESVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- In celebration of Earth Day, New York State announced over $3 million in new funding to Thacher State Park in honor of its centennial year. The funding is set to bolster the park's environmental management along with the park's recreational activities.
The funding is set to allow the park to construct a $2.5 million solar array to provide carbon free power to the park and a $1.4 million heating center for year-round visitors.
State officials hope the funding will help emphasize the importance of not only our relation to nature but also our relation to each other. The park was also gifted a plaque recognizing Thacher State Park as a national natural landmark. The park was given that designation in 2023.
