If you’re walking into a ‘perfume cloud,’ you’re doing it wrong – my tips to make your fragrance last longer
A PERFUME expert has shared their proven methods to make your signature fragrance last all day with minimal effort.
His budget-friendly tricks prevent you from walking into a perfume cloud while still smelling your best.
Petar Peric of dupe perfume company Chez Pierre said many may not know the best practices for applying fragrances to help them last longer.
Even the most expensive perfumes often don’t last longer than lunchtime, despite how much you spray in the morning.
If you want to make your fragrances last longer, try a few of his helpful tips.
PRIME LOCATION
There are certain target spots you should be spraying for optimal longevity.
Peric said that if you randomly spray your body or create a perfume cloud, you could be using too much of your fragrance and not getting the most value out of it.
“To make your perfume last longer apply it directly to your wrists, neck, and inner elbow,” he said.
“These are known as your pulse points and are parts of the body that are involved in a lot of movement every day. This movement creates heat, which intensifies the aroma of your perfume.”
He also shared how to achieve “the perfect smell.”
First, spray each wrist and elbow once and spritz once on your neck for a total of five sprays.
“You can adjust this number if you have a stronger perfume, but you should never do less than two,” said Peric.
MOISTURE METHOD
“One of the best times to apply your perfume is right after you get out of the bath,” Peric said.
But you can take this a step further by applying a hydrating lotion.
“Dry skin doesn’t hold the scent molecules as well as moisturized skin, so dab your skin with your towel and apply the moisturizer to your damp skin.
Apply your fragrance as the last step, and he said it will last a little longer than normal.
TO RUB OR NOT TO RUB
Peric added that the way you apply your fragrance can also affect how long it lasts on your skin.
“Do you rub your perfume in when it’s on your wrists, if so this is something you should avoid doing,” he said.
The expert added that rubbing your wrists together can warm the scent and cause the top notes to evaporate quickly.
According to the expert, top notes are the initial scents that you smell when you first apply the perfume, and they are the most volatile notes that typically last for 15 minutes.
“Where you can spray your perfumes, and if you can’t, simply dab them on your skin,” he advised.
SERIOUS STRENGTH
“Perfumes have different layers of scent and are categorized in top, middle, and base notes,” Perid continued.
A perfume made largely out of top notes won’t last more than two hours, while a perfume with more prominent base notes can last an entire day.
“If you want your fragrance to last longer, choose perfumes that consist of amber, musk, vanilla, sandalwood, cedarwood, and patchouli,” he recommended.

PRIME PICK
Perid said that how long your perfume “sticks around” has to do with the kind of scent you buy.
He explained that fragrances come in different concentrations, so the higher the concentration, the more perfume oil and less alcohol.
Generally, if a perfume oil concentration, it will stay on longer.
For example, he said that Eau de Toilette fragrances typically have around 5-15% concentration of perfume oils, while Eau de Parfum can be anywhere from 15-20% and Parfum 20-40%.
“Higher concentrations of perfume however can be expensive, so if you don’t want to spend too much on your fragrance you can choose a fragrance that has more prominent base notes,” he recommended.
