JJ’s Next Career Move?
This could get interesting
Duke legend and all-time scoring leader JJ Redick retired in 2021 and he’s certainly had an interesting career since doing so.
He was just the second professional athlete to start a podcast, doing that in 2016, and he parlayed that into an enduring podcast presence through several platforms and then moved onto ESPN where he’s been an analyst and more recently has worked live games.
And in March of this year, he started a podcast with LeBron James called “Mind the Game.”
But it seems like his love affair with the game has not expired and he’s clearly had an itch to move into coaching.
Recently he apparently interviewed with the Charlotte Hornets, which isn’t all that far from his Virginia roots (Roanoke is about a three hour drive away), and it looks like he might be a candidate for the L.A. Lakers coaching gig if Darvin Ham is not retained.
It might not be an easy job. James is pushing 40 and teammate Anthony Davis has a history of injuries. The supporting roster is not that great either.
But it might be the kind of challenge that Redick likes and the roster could be drastically remade with, say, a trade of Davis to the New York Knicks.
