Nintendo Joy-Con drift lawsuit will finally be dismissed after parents fought for five years
THE most well-known issue with the Nintendo Switch is a problem called Joy-Con drift, which has affected thousands of players.
Because of the way that the analogue sticks on Joy-Con are designed, they are prone to issues where they consistently drift in one direction.
Joy-Con drift has been an issue since the console’s release[/caption]This issue can appear on most controllers and isn’t limited to Joy-Con, as it is often caused by dirt getting trapped in the stick’s mechanism.
However, the issue has been more obvious in Nintendo’s Joy-Con than other consoles, with people complaining online about the controllers’ defect.
Nintendo acknowledged the issue in 2020 offering its apologies, as well as free repairs and replacements for affected controllers in a number of regions.
The company even offered refunds to those who had paid to repair their Joy-Con previously.
However, some parents weren’t happy with the compensation and opened class-action lawsuits against the company.
There were three well-known class action lawsuits, with the first, Sanchez vs Nintendo, dismissed in 2022.
As reported by Game File, two lawsuits, Diaz vs Nintendo and Carbajal vs Nintendo, which were opened in 2019 and 2020 respectively will soon be closed.
Both the parents who opened the lawsuits and Nintendo, have called for their dismissal.
The lawsuits were based on the notion that Nintendo knowingly sold a defective product.
The Joy-Con drift issue has been reported on all versions of the Switch console, from the original to the later Lite and OLED models.
