Tom‘s character Raymond Peepgrass is seen standing at full attention after being caught in bed with Diane Lane‘s Martha by her ex-husband Charlie, played by Jeff Daniels.
Raymond had just taken Viagra and well… you can tell.
So, why did Tom wear a prosthetic instead of showing the real thing?
“The conversation was, what is the maximal comedic penis payoff? We didn’t change a word of what David [E. Kelley] wrote, and I let that always let that inform any decision I make. So, based on the text, we thought it was kind of funny that this little buggy Raymond Peepgrass might have a f–king big d–k,” Tom told Variety.
He added, “Also, I thought that that choice just lent itself to being the most ridiculous and absurd version of how that could go — the most cheap male, toxic humor sh-t. If we’re gonna do it, let’s fully do that. Regina got it.”
“God bless the guy who does those prosthetics!” Tom said. “You want to be free, you want to have fun, you don’t want anybody else to be offended or weirded out.”
He continued, “There was a terrifying moment where part of the fitting process, as described to me, involved a lot of hot wax, which scared the hell out of me — and we were luckily able to avoid it. There was lot of work, a lot of meetings, a lot of talking, a lot of fittings, went into that prosthetic.”
