Troy receives federal funding for lead pipe removal

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The city of Troy has received federal funding to remove thousands of lead pipes from several homes in the city. The nearly $13 million is the latest step in the ongoing work to remove lead from the city water system.
U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer said progress has been made in the removal process, but residents can help continue the work.
"The best thing you can do right now is help the city with this inventory," he said. "Because guess what? There's more federal dollars. This is the first major federal grant of lead pipe funding, but it ain't the last. The faster we inventory the pipes, the faster Troy can replace them, and the easier it is to tackle more funding from that law."
City residents can call the city to come out and check their pipes for free.
