Loose Women star QUITS show for ‘dream job’ working with Hollywood star – and is moving to the US
SOPHIE Morgan has quit Loose Women after two years – and is moving to America.
The 38-year-old revealed she has landed her dream job and will be working alongside Reese Witherspoon as she concentrates on her disability advocacy across the pond.
In a lengthy post to update fans, Sophie revealed she found it easier to live with a disability in the US as she thanks Loose Women.
She wrote: “I also wanted to update you on the latest with Loose Women.
“Whilst I had an incredible time working there (it was a dream platform for a disabled woman with a lot to say), the time has come to part ways.
“I am very proud to have been part of their groundbreaking work, including campaigns such as ‘Body Stories’ – which celebrated body diversity & confidence – ‘Facing It Together’ – a campaign about domestic abuse – & of course, my baby, ‘Rights on Flights’, which was born on the show last year.”
She continued: Firstly, as some of you know, it has been a dream of mine to live and work in the US for some time now, & it has finally become a reality.
“I find life here so accessible; I feel like a different person, more free and less disabled – thanks partly to the ADA, the weather and the general positivity! I will be based between LA & London for the foreseeable & am excited to continue sharing my adventures with you all.”
Her upcoming ‘trailblazing’ documentary will be made with Reese Witherspooon’s production company.
Sophie’s fight
Sophie is paralysed from the chest down after a car crash at 18.
She has put the accident down to her dangerous driving, telling The Sun: “I wasn’t drunk, I was just driving like an idiot.
“I’d only had my licence a few months, so I wasn’t particularly experienced.
“Because the car was full of my friends I was a bit distracted and it was late at night, about 3 or 4 in the morning on country lanes.
“It was a perfect storm for a crash really.”
Speaking twenty years on as she reflected on the crash, Sophie told us: “Back at the beginning, everyone told me there were so many things I couldn’t do, shouldn’t do, and wouldn’t do.
“And I was like, ‘Hold on a minute. Why not?’ and every year I set the goal a little bit higher and make the goalposts a little bit wider.
“There are a lot of glass ceilings for people like me, and I’m constantly trying to dismantle those.”
Sophie went on: “It’s not about celebrating the fact that I was paralysed.
“It’s more about celebrating the fact I didn’t die, because I did very nearly die in the crash.”
Her glittering career
Nine months after her accident Sophie took part in BBC Two‘s show Beyond Boundaries, following 11 disabled people on a 220-mile trek across Nicaragua.
Sophie got amoebic dysentery in the jungle and couldn’t complete the trip.
In 2008, she took part in Britain’s Missing Top Model, the reality TV search for a disabled model – and came runner-up to Kelly Knox.
She modelled Stella McCartney designs for Adidas in 2012.
What accident was Sophie Morgan in?
At the age of 18, just after receiving her A-level results, Sophie crashed a car carrying four friends while driving between parties in Elgin, Scotland.
Her friends received minor injuries.
However, Sophie was trapped under the overturned car and ended up with a fractured back, nose and skull.
Since then, the telly host – who studied art after ditching her plan to study law – has been paralysed from the ribs down.
Other shows she’s hosted include Licence To Kill about road safety, The World’s Worst Place To Be Disabled? which saw her travel to Ghana, and she has also reported for Horizon, The One Show, and Channel 4 News.
For the 2012 and 2016 Paralympics Sophie was one of Channel 4’s main sports presenters – as well as featuring on The Superhuman Show with Alex Brooker, and presenting coverage of the IPC Swimming European Championships.
In 2021, she was a lead presenter for Channel 4’s TV coverage of the Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.
Since 2022, Sophie has been one of the Crufts presenters for Channel 4’s coverage of the coveted dog competition.
