The mum said that she was helped in the conversion with both her husband and her dad, who tried their best, despite not being professionals.
Andrea explained that the garage is a two car garage, that is 18 feet wide and 18 and a half feet long.
Before the conversion. the garage was a mess, with rubbish and knick knacks all over the floor.
The families first job was to clean out the garage, and then they headed to the hardware shop to pick up materials.
Next, they filled in the cracks in the floor and then removed the garage door, and built a wall to replace it.
The family then insulated the walls, and put up drywall, before priming and painting the walls.
Wood flooring was then added, and a ceiling fan was installed to keep the family cool in summer.
When the conversion was complete, it was time to add furniture, and Andrea added a large double bed, a small bed for her toddler and a cot for her baby.
She also added a fridge, a TV and some storage units.
The garage is just a bedroom, so the family will have to head into Anna’s parents house if they want to use the kitchen or bathroom.
Andrea said the project is not quite finished yet, and plans to head to Ikea to pick up some bargains to make it look homely.
She said the project cost her just £1250 to complete, far cheaper than buying a house.
Anna’s video, has likely left many impressed, as it has racked up over 287,000 views on the video sharing platform.
YouTube users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts.
One person said: “This is an awesome video! Great job to your dad and husband!”
A second person said: “Wow good job guys. Getting ready to move ourselves and I’m going to do exactly that to our garage.”
A third said: “This was very helpful! Your husband and dad did a fabulous job!”
Living in your parents’ converted garage is a great way to save cash for a house, whilst still having your independence.
As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, more and more adults are struggling to get on the property ladder and are choosing to live in their family home for longer.
The 2021 census revealed that over half of people aged 23 and under still live with their parents.
The average price of a house in the UK was £285,000 as of March 2023, and this rises to a whopping £735,254, which is completely unaffordable for many.
Moreover, research from the Resolution Foundation found that the average first time buyer deposit tripled from 5 per cent of the property price in 1989 to 15 per cent in 2019.
This means that buyers have to save for far longer and use up a larger percentage of their earnings to get on the property ladder.
Recent research by property site Zoopla found that 42 per cent of adults under 40 who do not already own homes have given up, due to the astronomical cost of buying a property.
This included 38 per cent of people earning over £60,000 (almost double the average salary for the UK).
