Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a potential blow following the news that rumoured target, Andrea Cambiaso, has signed a new contract extension with Juventus.
Cambiaso has come on leaps and bounds since returning from his loan spell at Genoa last summer and the 24-year-old has won several admirers with his performances at the Allianz Stadium this season.
The left-back, who can also operate further forward and has occasionally even slotted into midfield, was thought to be on Tottenham’s radar, with CalcioMercato reporting earlier this week that the Lilywhites were one of the clubs attracted by the player’s versatility and his tactical intelligence.
The report explained Spurs had been joined in the race by Aston Villa for the defender, who was said to be valued by Juventus at €40m (£34m) prior to opening his new deal.

Juventus have now confirmed that Cambiaso has put pen to paper on a new contract which will run until 30th June 2029.
TMW claimed that Serie A giants offered the left-back a significant pay rise as a reward for his performances this season.
Cambiso, who has two senior Italy caps to his name featured in 39 matches across all competitions for Juventus last season, scoring three goals and delivering six assists (transfermarkt).

The idea that Juve would let Cambiaso leave after such a stellar campaign was always quite far-fetched and this development has now put all the transfer speculation to rest.
There is no doubt that there is a requirement in the Tottenham first-team squad for more depth of quality at left-back in the upcoming transfer window.
While Destiny Udogie is undoubtedly Ange Postecoglou’s first-choice in the position, Ben Davies’ future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been called into question which has seen Micky van de Ven, Oliver Skipp and Emerson Royal all have to cover the left flank in recent matches.
While Cambiaso may have been a target, it would be difficult to understand why a player would risk regular first-team football to roll up their sleeves and battle Udogie for a starting place – especially when they are both competing for a spot in the Italian national team.
Postecoglou’s high-risk approach requires a player who can both defend and contribute in attacking areas, something Udogie has adopted beautifully to, unfortunately Davies cannot operate in the same manner.
