Mutharika shakes up cabinet….Appoints Gangata as Natural Resources Minister
President Arthur Peter Mutharika has announced a Cabinet reshuffle that has disbanded the Ministry of State, with immediate effect.
Among the key changes, Alfred Gangata has been moved from his role as Minister of State to become the new Minister of Natural Resources.
He will be deputised by Chipiliro Mpinganjira, a new entrant to Cabinet.
The reshuffle has also seen Jappie Mhango redeployed from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to the Ministry of Transport and Public Works.
In another significant change, Chimwemwe Chipungu has swapped portfolios with Feston Kaupa, moving from Defence to take over as Minister of Lands and Housing, while Kaupa assumes the role of Minister of Defence.
Meanwhile, Joseph Mwanamvekha has retained his position as Minister of Finance, and George Chaponda continues to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The changes were announced in Lilongwe and take effect immediately.
More reactions are expected as political stakeholders and the public respond to the reshuffle.
