US couple awarded thousands of dollars after logging crew cuts more than 1,000 trees from their Mississippi land; how photos, stump records and a survey helped them win

A Mississippi couple won thousands of dollars judgment after a logging company working on neighbouring land crossed the property boundary and cut 1,299 trees from their acreage. Gerald and Rhonda Smith used photographs, handwritten tree counts and stump measurements to document the damage, while a professional survey established the correct property line. The Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld the award in October 2025.
