Over 200 iPhone 18s attempted to be illegally imported into Astana

Tengrinews.kz — Customs officials at the "Auezjay - Astana" post of the capital's State Revenue Department have thwarted 10 attempts to smuggle mobile devices. A total of 223 iPhone 18 smartphones and 10 pairs of AirPods wireless headphones were seized, citing State Revenue Committee.
It was established that passengers were carrying a significant number of mobile devices in their luggage while passing through the "green corridor", meaning they did not file a customs declaration.

"In one instance, a passenger attempted to bring in 50 smartphones at once in their luggage, which significantly exceeds the established quantity of goods an individual may transport for personal use without paying customs duties and filing a declaration," the department stated.

Tax authorities determined that only four of the individuals involved were registered as sole proprietors. Another four were importing iPhones without any business registration.
The State Revenue Department reminded travelers that when moving goods across the customs border, they must adhere to the legal criteria for goods intended for personal use. Regarding mobile phones, individuals are permitted to transport no more than two smartphones per person.

"If the quantity or nature of the transported goods does not meet the criteria for personal use, they are subject to mandatory customs declaration and appropriate processing," the department added.

The seized iPhones have been placed in temporary storage. Their owners will be held administratively liable.
