Marquez fastest in third practice session for German MotoGP
World champion Marc Marquez was quickest in third practice for the MotoGP German Grand Prix on Saturday.
The Spaniard will be looking for an eighth straight win across the three classes at the Sachsenring on Sunday.
The Honda rider managed a best lap that was 0.17 seconds faster than compatriot Maverick Vinales, who lost the world championship lead when he crashed out in Assen last week, while home hope Jonas Folger was third.
New standings leader Andrea Dovizioso was the fastest man on Friday, but had to settle for seventh in the third session on his Ducati.
His fellow Italian and nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi recovered from a poor first day by going sixth-quickest, which gives him a direct place in the second and final qualifying session alongside the other race favourites.
Danilo Petrucci, who finished second behind Rossi in the Dutch race last time out, will have to go through first qualifying after finishing only 12th.
Just 11 points separate Dovizioso at the top of the riders' standings from Marquez in fourth, with the Yamaha duo of Vinales and Rossi sandwiched between.
Moto2 leader Franco Morbidelli led the way ahead of German Marcel Schrotter on Saturday, while Joan Mir laid down a marker to his title chasers by dominating the Moto3 session.
