North Korea win first lifting gold of Rio Games
Rim Jong-Sim blew away the opposition to win North Korea's first gold of the Rio Olympics in the women's 75kg category weightlifting on Friday.
Rim lifted 121kg in the snatch and 153kg in the clean and jerk for a combined total of 274, a massive 16kg ahead of Darya Naumava of Belarus who took silver.
Spain's Lidia Valentin claimed bronze.
The 23-year-old Rim's first-place finish added to two silver weightlifting medals that North Korea have already won in Brazil.
Om Yun-Chol finished second in the men's 56kg while Choe Hyo-Sim stepped onto the podium in the women's 63kg.
North Korea are well behind their most successful medal haul in weightlifting at any Olympics. They took home three gold and a bronze from London 2012.
Naumava lifted 116kg and 142kg for a total of 258 while Valentin finished 1kg back in third place.
