Not in Kazakh traditions - kissing and hugging discussed in Almaty

Tengrinews.kz — Residents of Almaty have been urged to pay closer attention to forms of greeting and the observance of national traditions.
According to a number of experts, greetings such as kissing and hugging have become increasingly common lately; however, they do not align with the ancient traditions of the Kazakh people or generally accepted norms of public etiquette.
This was reported by the Almaty Akimat press service following a roundtable titled "The Value System of Modern Society: Priorities and Development Prospects."
The department noted that some modern forms of greeting may be perceived as inappropriate, particularly when interacting with members of the older generation.

"The culture of holding celebrations and festivities must also align with national cultural norms, reflecting respect for traditions, spiritual values, and generally accepted moral standards. Only then can we speak of a highly cultured nation capable of serving as an example and laying a solid moral foundation for society. Today, it is vital to reinforce the values of a successful nation within society—one capable of overcoming challenges through unity and ensuring the country's progressive development,"reads the Almaty Akimat press service stated in a message.

The press service also noted that developing the country is impossible without strengthening legal culture and fostering responsible citizenship. The Akimat emphasized that modern society must be built on these very principles.
