Mukhtar Tleuberdi appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs
Tengrinews.kz — By presidential decree, Mukhtar Tleuberdi has been appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, relieving him of his previous post, citing Akorda. Prior to this appointment, he served as Kazakhstan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria and Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna.
He succeeds Ermek Kosherbaev, who had headed the foreign ministry since September 2025.
Mukhtar Tleuberdi was born in 1968 in the Chimkent region. He began his career in the diplomatic service in 1993 as Third Secretary of the Asian Affairs Department. From 1996 to 1999, he served as Third and then Second Secretary at the Kazakhstan Embassy in South Korea.
He later served as First Secretary of the Department of Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, and as Head of Division in the Department of Bilateral Cooperation.
In 2000–2001, he was an advisor to the State Secretary for International Affairs in the Presidential Administration. From 2001 to 2003, he served as Counselor at the Kazakhstan Embassy in Israel.
He subsequently spent a year as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs. From 2004 to 2009, he served as Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Malaysia. Between 2005 and 2009, he was concurrently accredited as Ambassador to Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, and the Philippines.
From 2009 to 2016, he served as Ambassador to Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, with concurrent accreditation to the Vatican.
From 2016 to 2019, he held the position of First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
He was first appointed Foreign Minister in September 2019.

In August 2023, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria and Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna.
He holds the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and is fluent in English and Korean.
