KNB investigates case against head of Aktau administrative police department

Tengrinews.kz —The National Security Committee (KNB) press service has commented on reports regarding the detention of the head of the Aktau administrative police department.
Reports have surfaced in the media and on social networks indicating that Suyun Kurmantayev, the head of the Aktau administrative police department, is under investigation. According to these reports, the high-ranking officer allegedly promised to assist in obtaining a driver's license for 520,000 tenge by bypassing official procedures. It was also reported that the investigation is being handled by the NSC's Anti-Corruption Service.
Tengrinews.kz reached out to the National Security Committee's press service, which confirmed that an investigation has been launched.

"A pre-trial investigation is currently underway. Pursuant to Article 201, Part 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code, no further information may be disclosed," the NSC press service stated.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) press service informed Tengrinews.kz that the suspect had previously been dismissed from the internal affairs bodies as part of preventive measures. He was not serving in the police force at the time of his detention.

"The Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the NSC, is currently conducting the necessary measures regarding this case. The ministry maintains a principled stance: any illegal actions, regardless of prior employment or position, must receive an appropriate legal assessment," the Ministry of Internal Affairs' press service declared.

Note:The administrative police is one of the primary branches of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It is responsible for crime prevention, maintaining public order and road safety, monitoring weapon circulation, enforcing administrative penalties, and providing public services. Additionally, the department handles the prevention of domestic violence and the protection of women from abuse.
