Caltrain service resumes after person struck on tracks in Gilroy
Caltrain service from Gilroy was experiencing major delays Tuesday morning after a person was fatally struck on the tracks by a freight train, officials said.
The incident occurred about 7 a.m. near the intersection of Tenth Street and Monterey Road when a person somehow got stuck on the tracks and then was struck by the train, said Tasha Bartholomew, a spokeswoman for Caltrain.
The incident prompted multiple streets closures as Union Pacific conducted its investigation, according to the Gilroy Police Department.
By about 9:30 a.m., the train involved in the incident was moved from the tracks and Caltrain service resumed, but with residual delays, police said.
