Russian embassy in Armenia reports events in commemoration of  Armenian Genocide victims

ArmInfo. The Russian Embassy in Armenia spoke about the commemorative events held on the territory 

of the Russian Federation on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of 

the Armenian Genocide.

The message emphasizes that Russia carefully preserves the memory of 

the victims of the genocide of the fraternal Armenian people in the 

Ottoman Empire in 1915-1922.

"Every year on April 24, recognized by the State Duma of the Russian 

Federation as the day of remembrance for victims of the genocide, 

remembrance ceremonies, memorial and educational events are held in 

Russian regions, organized by the Armenian Apostolic Church, Armenian 

national cultural organizations and communities, which find a wide 

response in the hearts of all Russians.

On April 24, 2024, in the Cathedral of the Holy Transfiguration in 

Moscow, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Russia and New 

Nakhichevan, Archbishop Yezras Nersisyan, celebrated a liturgy 

dedicated to the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. A 

ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths took place at the Memorial to 

the Victims of the Armenian Genocide. A documentary photo exhibition 

has opened at the Kovcheg Museum, located on the territory of the 

church complex.

Commemorative events took place in the Kama Garden of St. Petersburg, 

where a prayer service, a performance by the choir of the Armenian 

Church of St. Petersburg and the laying of wreaths at the monument to 

Komitas took place. Participants in commemorative events in 

Rostov-on-Don visited the "Surb Harutyun" church, where a memorial 

service was held, and flowers were laid at the monument "No to 

Genocide!" A memorial service, a memorial event "We Remember and 

Demand," and screenings of the films "The Promise" and "The Scar" 

took place in Krasnodar. Also, 109 purple balloons were released into 

the sky as a sign of the undying memory of the victims of the tragic 

events of 109 years ago.

Memory of the victims of the tragic events of 1915-1922. honored in 

Yaroslavl, where over 200 people, including the chairman of the 

municipality S.G. Kalinin, took part in the funeral meeting at the 

Armenian temple "Surb Gevorg". On April 24, on the territory of the 

Church of the Nativity of Christ in Nizhnevartovsk, near the sacred 

khachkar, residents of the city, representatives of the Armenian 

diaspora, gathered to honor the memory of those who fell and were 

innocently killed in the terrible days of the genocide of the 

Armenian people. In Mineralnye Vody, on the territory of the Surb 

Khach church, a prayer service was held, after which a religious 

procession took place to the memorial khachkar dedicated to the 

memory of the victims of the genocide. Representatives of the 

regional Duma, municipality, and public organizations spoke with 

words of support.

In Vologda, representatives of the regional government, city 

administration, national and cultural public associations, the 

Assembly of Peoples of the Vologda Region, members of the Public 

Council of Vologda, schoolchildren and students of the city came to 

pay tribute to the victims of the genocide and lay flowers.  The 

tragedy of 1915-1922 is deeply felt in the Republic of Crimea, in 

whose life the Armenian diaspora has played a large role since 

ancient times. The religious procession, traditional since 2020, took 

place in Simferopol, as well as a funeral meeting at the Surb Hakob 

church and the laying of flowers at the memorial to the victims of 

the Armenian Genocide. The memorial ceremony took place on the 

territory of the St. Sarkis temple in Feodosia, the participants of 

which were representatives of the Armenian community of the city, 

municipal authorities, and ordinary citizens," noted the Russian 

diplomatic mission in Armenia. At the same time, the embassy 

emphasized that they listed only a small part of the events dedicated 

to the memory victims of the Genocide of 1915-1922, carried out on 

the territory of the Russian Federation, which today is home to about 

1 million Armenians, whose fate is closely intertwined with 

representatives of other nationalities, primarily Russians.

"The pain and sorrow of the Armenian people is fully shared by our 

entire multinational and multi-religious country, and the memory of 

those innocently killed and killed during those terrible events is 

carefully preserved both in historical documents and in the hearts of 

Russians," summed up the Russian Embassy in Armenia.
