West Ham rejected to sell their star
– Wenger said he considered signing Payet
– Harry Redknapp explains why the club will not sell Dimitri Payet
– Redknapp praises the player
Harry Redknapp states that West Ham will not sell Dimitri Payet as the player is the club’s biggest crowd favourite.
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has revealed why he chose not to sign in-form midfielder Dimtiri Payet from Marseille before the 29-year-old moved to West Ham last summer.
Wenger, who has been on the look-out for a classy striker, said he is lucky to have good players playing in Payet’s midfield role. According to Wenger, he had considered signing France star Dimitri Payet but decided against it because he was not consistent.
Wenger told Daily Express when asked if he had considered a move for Payet: “Yes. Often. Very often, I have to say that I asked myself that question during my career.”

And Redknapp insists that the club will do all they can to keep the 29-year-old: “I don’t think they’d sell him. West Ham have a new stadium, 60,000 stadium, Olympic Stadium, sold 50-odd thousand season tickets. David Sullivan, David Gold, they aren’t into selling that club, it’s worth a fortune. They won’t be short of money, I don’t see a reason why they would sell their star player.”
He continued: “The fans idolise him, he has become a superstar with the West Ham supporters, probably the biggest crowd favourite since Paolo Di Canio. I definitely don’t see West Ham selling Payet, he has either signed a new contract or is on the verge of signing a new contract.”

The coach added: “I’m sure Slaven Bilic and the board will keep him. West Ham is an emerging club; they were excellent last year and next year they could do even better. Dimitri Payet will want to be part of that West Ham team; he has loved being at the Hammers. I’m sure he’ll want to stay.”
Payet netted 12 times and made 15 assists in 38 appearances for West Ham last season.
Payet has been the stand-out player of Euro 2016 so far, inspiring Didier Deschamps team going forward and scoring in both of the host’s wins against Romania and Albania.
