Joe Montana Lists Napa Estate for $29 Million. Here’s a Look Inside
That's $20 million less than what he wanted 10 years ago.
Joe Montana is going long as he puts his 500-acre Napa Valley estate on the market.
The Hall of Fame quarterback and San Francisco 49ers legend is asking $28.9 million for the 9,700 square foot, three-bedroom Tuscan-style villa and surrounding land. That’s significantly less than his original asking price when he first listed the home in 2009 for $49 million.
That sale, where the price was dropped to $35 million by 2012, never happened. (Montana’s kids reportedly asked him to keep the home, but have since grown up and moved out on their own.)
The house, listed by Tim Hayden and Avram Goldman of Compass, is luxurious, even by celebrity standards. Among its features are a wine cellar that can hold 3,500 bottles; a separate cellar for olive oil (the estate’s olive trees produce between 30 and 60 gallons per year), a swimming pool, a basketball court, a shooting range, a guesthouse studio and a caretaker’s cottage. Turreted towers offer a 360-degree view of Mt. St. Helena.
It’s the main house itself that’s next level, though. Montana and his wife Jennifer spent five years designing and building it, furnishing it with Italian marble floors, a Parisian marble bathtub and a 17th-century church altar.
The estate is located 15 minutes from the town of Calistoga, Ca. Montana, who runs a venture capital firm these days, resides full time in San Francisco.
