A regular session of court was held in case of Jirayr Sefilyan, which began with a clash between law enforcers and lawyers
ArmInfo. Today the regular session on the case of the hero of the Artsakh war Jirayr Sefilyan and his associates accused of illegal acquisition, storage and use of
arms and ammunition was held.
Before the beginning of the court session, a clash occurred between
representatives of law enforcement agencies and lawyers of the
accused. Guarding the entrance to the courthouse, law enforcement
officers tried to search lawyers who opposed this, saying that the
law prohibits the search of defenders before meeting with clients or
before court sessions. Nevertheless, the guards refused to allow
lawyers to enter the courtroom without a search. However, later the
defense party joined the court session.
Immediately after the beginning of the trial, the defense party took
the floor and demanded the resignment of Judge Tatevik Grigoryan,
reasoning that the judge required very little time to get acquainted
with the case materials and in parallel held 21 meetings on 4
different suits. "Consequently, all the decisions taken by her
earlier to extend the measures to suppress prisoners, as well as all
subsequent decisions to be taken, do not inspire confidence in us,
and we ask the judge's reassignment," said the lawyer Papikyan.
However, Judge Tatevik Grigoryan did not accept the defense's
request, considering it unmotivated. Then the judge after a few
replicas of the accused Gevorg Safaryan with meta decided to ban his
presence in the courtroom. Then the court retired for an hour to the
advisory room.
