Piotr Switalski is committed to fighting corruption in Armenia
ArmInfo. The head of the EU delegation to Armenia, Piotr Switalski, is committed to combating corruption in Armenia.
Responding to a question about Transparency International's
non-optimistic assessments of the situation with corruption in
Armenia, Switalski said at a press conference in Yerevan on June 20:
"I am personally committed to the issue of fighting corruption in
Armenia. We, like the EU, in various ways, in particular through
financial agreements, have provided real assistance to this issue.
We, do not lose hope, optimism for the future. Of course, the
estimates of Transparency International, a non-governmental
international organization for fighting corruption, are rather
pessimistic. But I came here to express our preliminary positive
assessment of the legislative package that was recently adopted by
the RA Parliament, in particular, regarding the activities of the
anti-corruption agency, and the expansion of the framework for
submitting income statements by officials. A professional appraisal
of activity will be given. And maybe there will be problems, but in
overall the impression and attitude is that the situation is
favorable, this is very important. This is a positive step," he said.
At the same time, he stated that the government had presented an
anti-corruption program that needed detailed study and analysis. At
the same time, he promised to give detailed information on this issue
in September this year.
