Serzh Sargsyan: Armenia is ready to increase its participation in the missions to UNIFIL in Lebanon and MINUSMA in Mali
ArmInfo.Armenia is following with great pain the Syrian crisis and the humanitarian
situation, from which the civilian population suffers, including the Armenian community of the country. This was stated at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly by RA President Serzh Sargsyan.
"Armenia, within its capabilities, seeks to somehow mitigate the
suffering of the Syrian people by providing humanitarian assistance.
We are also ready to participate in possible discussions around the
formation of peacekeeping efforts in Syria under the auspices and the
relevant UN mandate. Moreover, we are ready to increase our
participation in the missions to UNIFIL in Lebanon and MINUSM in
Mali, "he said. The President stressed that Armenia, being a country
located in a difficult region that has no access to the sea,
possessing limited natural resources, constantly declared that its
most valuable resource is a person. "Probably, not only in Armenia,
but in the whole family of the United Nations in the center of
everything you need to keep a person, you need to strive for peace
and a dignified life for everyone on a stable planet," he said.
Touching upon the international integration of Armenia, Serzh
Sargsyan stressed that the republic today is also an active member of
the Eurasian Economic Union and, through its interested
participation, tries to contribute to stimulating efforts to create
even greater benefits for people through the unimpeded movement of
goods and services in this large economic space. "We already have
positive results, which inspires good hopes for the future. We are
also planning to sign an agreement with the European Union in
November on a comprehensive and expanded partnership, which, we are
convinced, will help us to give new energy for the implementation of
institutional reforms, "the head of state said, stressing that over
the past years Armenia has become full and responsible member of the
international community. Note that in 2017 marks the 25th
anniversary of Armenia's membership in the United Nations. On March
2, 1992, the Armenian tricolor was raised in this central
headquarters of the United Nations family.
