Serzh Sargsyan received world-renowned scientists, foreign members of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia
ArmInfo. On November 6, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received world-renowned scientists, foreign members of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Yuri Hovhannisyan and Ani Apramyan. They arrived in Armenia to participate
in the Pan-Armenian scientific conference held in Yerevan on November
6-8, as well as to discuss issues related to the strategy of the National Scientific Laboratory named after A.I Alikhanyan.
According to the press service of the head of state, welcoming famous
scientists, the President of Armenia highly appreciated their
readiness to help the development of science in Armenia, as well as
to contribute, especially to progress in physics and mathematics, as
well as the education of young scientists. Sargsyan also highly
appreciated the persistence of famous scientists in the development
of the National Oncology Center of Excellence, and especially the
National Scientific Laboratory named after A.I. Alikhanyan (Yerevan
Institute of Physics), in terms of the production of isotopes on the
territory of the NNLA and the diagnostic center program. He stressed
that the state will continue to keep this program in the center of
attention and assist in its implementation.
Yuri Hovhannisyan, in addition to his key role in world science, is
also appointed prime minister of Armenia as chairman of the
international scientific council of NNLA. In 2009-2010, he formed an
international commission that examined and submitted proposals to the
government on the transformation of the Yerevan Institute of Physics
into the National Science Laboratory. In 2011, Yuri Hovhannisyan was
appointed chairman of the International Scientific Council of the
above-mentioned foundation and is still actively advising and
assisting the establishment of this scientific organization. Ani
Apramyan, who also has experience managing a number of American and
European scientific institutions, especially in nuclear physics and
isotope production, also actively participates in the commission
formed by Yuri Hovhannisyan. Since 2011 she has been a member of the
international scientific council of the NNLA and has been doing
significant work helping young scientists in their involvement in
international programs. At the meeting, the importance of cooperation
between the Armenian Science and Technology Foundation (FAST) and the
tandem Ani Abrahamyan and Yuri Hovhannisyan was also emphasized,
considering that Yuri Hovhannisyan is also a member of the FAST Board
of Trustees.
The Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) was
launched in 2016. The main mission of the Foundation is to create a
favorable ecosystem to stimulate innovation and scientific progress
in Armenia and beyond. FAST intends to mobilize and unite the
financial and technological resources of the Armenian and
international scientific community. The founders of FAST were Ruben
Vardanyan and Nubar Afeyan on behalf of the IDeA fund, Fr. Mesrop
Aramyan on behalf of "Ayb" and "Luys" funds, entrepreneur in the
sphere of high technologies and innovations Artur Alaverdyan. The
Board of Trustees was established, consisting of five people,
including the founders.
