The Armenian government, with reservation, approved the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence
ArmInfo. The Armenian government approved the Council of Europe Convention on Prevention and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence during its
December 28 meeting.
As the Minister of Justice of Armenia David Harutyunyan stated, the
Council of Europe Convention entered into force in 2014, it was
signed by all member countries of the Council of Europe, with the
exception of two states. Not wishing to elaborate on the details of
the document, the minister recalled that some time ago a project on
prevention of family violence, protection of persons subjected to
domestic violence was widely discussed in Armenia.
"Basically, the provisions of this law are taken from this
convention," he said. The head of the Ministry of Justice noted that
in connection with a number of provisions of the European convention
Armenia offers to make reservations - a number of provisions will not
be applied to the republic. "This is due to the peculiarities of the
country's legal system," David Harutyunyan said.
It should be reminded that earlier the Armenian parliament approved
the law "On the prevention of family violence and protection of
persons subjected to family violence and reconciliation in the
family. "
