Armenian Foreign Minister and LAS Secretary General discussed the situation in the Middle East, North Africa and the South Caucasus
ArmInfo. Within the framework of an official visit to Egypt, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with the Secretary General of the League of
Arab States (LAS) Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
As reported by the RA MFA press service, Mnatsakanyan noted that this
meeting is a good opportunity to re-evaluate the cooperation that has
developed between Armenia and the League of Arab States, outline the
prospects for its expansion. The parties mutually pointed to the role
of the Armenian communities in strengthening relations between
Armenia and the Arab world.
The Armenian Foreign Minister and the LAS Secretary General touched
upon the events in the Middle East, North Africa and the South
Caucasus. They mutually expressed concern about manifestations in
these regions of provocative actions aimed at undermining stability
and security, and emphasizing the need for joint steps by the
international community to maintain and strengthen peace and
stability in the regions.
Mnatsakanyan presented the principled position and approaches of
Armenia on the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
During the meeting, the sides touched upon the current situation
around the Palestinian issue. The RA Foreign Minister pointed out the
importance of efforts aimed at resolving the Lebanese-Syrian
humanitarian issues.
