Pope again calls for peace between Armenia, Azerbaijan; pointes to right Artsakh Armenians to return to their homes
ArmInfo.Pope Francis again called for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and pointed out the
right of Artsakh Armenians to return to their homes.
"I am also concerned about the tense situation in the South Caucasus
between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and urge the parties to sign a peace
treaty. There is an urgent need to find a solution to the tragic
humanitarian situation of the inhabitants of this region, to
facilitate the return of displaced persons to their homes in legal
and safe conditions, and respect the religious diversity of those
present. These steps can contribute to the formation of an
environment of trust between the two countries in view of the
much-desired peace," the Pontiff noted, addressing diplomats
accredited to the Holy See.
According to Vatican news, this is the second time His Holiness has
made a similar call, demanding the return of Artsakh Armenians to
their homeland, in lawfulness and safety. He made the first such
appeal on December 25 of last year, during the Christmas "Urpi Et
Orpi" message.
