Moscow does not see positive dynamics in negotiations on Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization
ArmInfo. As of today Moscow does not see positive dynamics in the negotiations on normalizing
relations between Yerevan and Baku.
Thus, on March 20, during a weekly briefing, official representative
of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, touching on this
issue, in particular, said: "You know, it was at that time when
tripartite agreements were effectively implemented at the highest
level, when there were regular contacts between Yerevan and Baku
through the mediation of our country, at that time there was a
positive dynamic of negotiations between Yerevan and Baku. This does
not mean that there are no other theoretical possibilities - there
certainly can be. You and I are just talking about when there was
positive dynamics. But there are facts."
The Russian diplomat again emphasized that the situation changed
dramatically as soon as Westerners began to penetrate the situation
in the region, who simply wanted to intercept the agenda. She added
that the West was haunted by the fact that the situation in the
region was moving towards a peaceful course, that there was an
international legal framework, that countries were reaching
agreements without any aggression, despite a very difficult past,
simply having a vision of a peaceful future.
"It was the Westerners who imposed their formula on Nagorno-Karabakh
on Armenia, forgetting about the need to ensure the rights and
security of the local Armenian population. You know very well what
this led to. We hear this from the population of Karabakh - this led
to the emergence of additional problems in the region. It is these
Western regimes that today force Armenia to make unilateral decisions
regarding disputed territorial issues on the border with Azerbaijan.
We see how Western countries are literally pushing Yerevan to destroy
all the positive trends that were both in contact with Baku and in
relations with Moscow. However, we have always had, I am sure that we
will continue to have alliance relations that will continue to
develop with Yerevan on the path of alliance," said the
representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
She once again emphasized that Moscow sees how Westerners are trying
to infiltrate the region in order to pursue exclusively their
interests - and this is the ideology of controlled chaos. Zakharova
also again accused the EU civilian mission in Armenia of espionage
against Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan. According to her, there is
factual evidence of this.
"Such destructive activity leads to increased tension in the region,
and can even lead to irreversible consequences. Everyone understands
this," she said, once again recalling that all recipes for the
settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations are spelled out in
trilateral statements by the leaders of Russia, Armenia and
Azerbaijan.
