Parliamentary groups take a positive view of Gagik Tsarukyan`s possible return to mainstream politics
ArmInfo. The parliamentary groups take a positive view of ex- leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Gagik Tsarukyan's possible return to mainstream politics.
PAP faction member Vahe Enfiajyan says that Tsarukyan can consolidate
the opposition field. Enfiajyan stresses that he will only welcome
Tsarukyan's return. "The PAP is one of the influential political
forces. Tsarukyan is at the origins of the party. So, his possible
return is a positive fact for us," he stresses.
Head of the Heritage Party Faction Zaruhi Postanjyan says: "His
return may be a necessity for his supporters, but it will change
nothing for me". At the same time, she thinks that Tsarukyan's return
will be a pre-electoral step. "He was driven away from politics and
now the ruling authoritarian regime lets him come back. So, one
cannot speak of any opposition sentiments, she stresses.
Head of the Armenian National Congress Faction Levon Zurabyan says
that if the PAP ex-head is returning to mainstream politics because
the prominent politicians do not cope with the existing problems, the
ANC is ready to assume that burden.
Orinats Yerkir Faction member Mher Shahgeldyan thinks that it is the
personal business of Tsarukyan and the comments on this will be
relevant only after he comes back.
The heads of the factions of the Republican Party of Armenia and ARF
Dashnaktsutyun, Vahram Baghdasaryan and Armen Rustamyan, see nothing
bad in Tsarukyan's possible return to politics. "We are willing to
cooperate with him after he returns," they say.
To note, ex-leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, lawmaker and
businessman Gagik Tsarukyan told reporters on October 26 that he will
"open the closed page again" if need be. Tsarukyan stressed that he
needs neither fame nor a political post. If he decides to return to
politics, he will do it as a matter of necessity. "If the prominent
politicians fail to cope with the tasks, I will open the closed
page," he stressed.
By ArmInfo's data, this November at the PAP congress, the
leadership of the party will be changed and Gagik Tsarukyan will
return to his post of PAP leader. An arrangement on Tsarukyan's
return to the political field has already been achieved with
President Serzh Sargsyan. According to ArmInfo's sources, Tsarukyan
is returning to form a post-election coalition with the ruling
Republican Party in 2017. The third party to join the coalition will
be ARF Dashnaktsutyun, as the country's leadership plans.
