Armenian National Security Council is looking for members of a specialized gang who stole about 133 million AMD from Armenian ATMs
ArmInfo.International specialized criminal gang stole about 133mln AMD from Armenian ATMs, the Armenian NSC press-service told ArmInfo.
"According to Armenian NSC data, a specialized criminal gang operates
in former Soviet states, which thefts funds by sending to emails
computer viruses. Armenian NSC, attaching great importance to private
data security, corporative and financial data, calls individuals and
legal entities to be careful and delete the unknown mails without
opening them", reads the NSC statement. Wherein the department noted
that a similar case was registered in Armenia as well. Thus, a
criminal gang, in the name of one of Armenian State Bodies, send
working mails of employees of a commercial bank operating in Armenia
several dozens emails with computer virus through which they
penetrated into the internal network of the bank, and took the
information stored there.
"Then, a remote program has been implemented and ran on one of the
bank's servers by which a commercial bank ATMs were infected with the
above malware thereby violating their natural work. Subsequently,
members of the gang, who arrived in Armenia, stole about 133mln AMD
from 22 ATMs in Yerevan and Abovyan. The identities of all three
foreign nationals who have committed crimes are found out. The
Armenian National Security Service opened a criminal case on the
grounds of article 254 part 4 of claim 1 of the Criminal Code of
Armenia (illegal or improper mastery of the information stored in the
computer system), 256 part 2, p. 1 and 2. (development, use and
distribution of malicious programs in order to enrichment), 181 part
3 1 and paragraph 2 (embezzlement in a large scale, by means of
computer technology), 190 hours. 3 1. and 2. (appropriation of
property obtained by crime). These persons declared internationally
wanted", reads the NSC statement.
To note, measures are being taken to identify the other members of
the group in cooperation with international partners.
