Tbilisi: It is necessary to use the Armenian-Georgian transit potential in such areas as transport and logistics
ArmInfo.Armenia and Georgia have great untapped potential for cooperation. The Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze at a briefing with Armenian Foreign
Minister Edward Nalbandian expressed this opinion on April 11 in
Yerevan.
"2017 is special for the Armenian-Georgian bilateral relations, we
celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic
relations. Over these years, thanks to joint efforts, it was possible
to develop a mutually beneficial partnership based on mutual trust. I
would also like to congratulate Armenia on the recent parliamentary
elections, which marked the transition to a parliamentary form of
government," the Georgian minister said.
The Georgian Foreign Minister noted that during the meeting with the
Armenian side all the main directions of cooperation were discussed,
the mutual desire to intensify the political dialogue was underlined.
"We discussed the prospects of the development of trade and economic
relations, touched on such areas of interaction as transport, energy,
tourism, culture, art. The importance of using the transit potential
between Armenia and Georgia in such areas as transport and logistics
through the implementation of joint projects, including the use of
the infrastructure of the Black Sea port, was stressed," Janelidze
said.
At the same time, the Georgian minister noted that the meeting also
touched upon the issues of expanding cooperation within the framework
of international organizations, special attention was paid to
regional challenges. "We discussed the situation in the "occupied
territories" of Georgia (Abkhazia and South Ossetia-Ed.). At the same
time, they stressed the importance of maintaining stability and
security in the region. They touched on the European integration of
Georgia. They expressed satisfaction with the completion of the
negotiations between Armenia and the EU around the new framework
agreement. In this context, he added that he was satisfied with the
results of the talks in Yerevan, and expressed his readiness to
promote the implementation of the agreements reached.
