Yerevan OSCE office will be closed on August 31 of the current year
ArmInfo. Yerevan OSCE office definitively will be closed on August 31 2017, the organization press service informed ArmInfo, where the agency earlier has sent a request on this issue.
In particular, OSCE General Director Lamberto Zannier informed today that the Organization needs to start Yerevan office closing process, as they did not manage to reach consensus related to the future governing mandate.
OSCE also noted that the talks over prolongation of the office work mandate did not give expected results.
Zannier said that the Office in Yerevan, opened in 2000, brought a significant contribution in Armenian authorities supporting and consulting them in OSCE carrying duties. "The cooperation with Armenia has always been very beneficial," said the organization general secretary. At the same time, he added that the Organization supported Armenian side in Armenian Police reforming issue while working, also the observation and improvement of national normative base, influencing to the working activeness and daily life of the nationals. In 2006 the management in Yerevan started the implementation of the program in Syuniq area aimed at intense development supporting program.
At that Zannier stressed that OSCE will aspire to continue cooperation with Armenia in accordance to existing obligations of the Organization on all three safety aspects-mi8litary-political measurement, economy, ecology. At the beginning of the current year it became well known that Yerevan OSCE Office would be closed soon. The reason was a negative voice, applied from Azerbaijan on continuing further mission of OSCE Office in Yerevan. As we know, OSCE, according its regulation, makes decisions on the consensus base, and, despite all the member countries came out to continue the mission of Yerevan Office, which is the only one in the region, Azerbaijani veto would result the closing of the office in Armenia. To note, Austrian representative of OSCE also brought efforts directed to the organization's mission continuing in Yerevan, however, it did not change Baku decision.
