Nalbandian: Armenia joins the calls on carrying investigation on corruption scandal in PACE
ArmInfo. Armenia praises the
contribution of the international partners, including the highly
professional support of the EU and the Venice Commission in the case
of reformation of the Democratic Institutions and strengthening of
electoral processes in the state.
As the Armenian MFA told ArmInfo, Edward Nalbandian stated this on
May 19, in Cyprus during the 127th meeting of the Committee of the
Ministers of the Council of Europe.
"We expect the continuation of the effective cooperation in this
direction", he said. In this context he reminded that on April 2 in
Armenia, Parliamentary elections took place, attended by an
unprecedentedly large number of international observers. According to
him, the latter stated that the electoral processes were well
organized, the fundamental rights were respected, and the results of
the elections reflected the will of the population.
Referring to the corruption scandal in the Parliamentary Assembly of
the Council of Europe and the institutional crisis, Nalbandian said:
"We join the calls for a comprehensive investigation to restore the
damage caused to this organization," Nalbandian concluded. At the end
of last year, Western media reported that some PACE members were
involved in corruption scandals. In this regard, Secretary General of
the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland called on PACE to begin an
independent investigation of the charges of a number of deputies in
corruption as soon as possible. The PACE Bureau, the statutory body
of the Assembly, decided to prepare a document on this topic.
