It's lunchtime, and this IT pilot fish is the one on call when word of a high-level tech crisis comes in: The teleconferencing equipment in the executive conference room isn't working.
"I made the trip upstairs to check it out," says fish. "When I got there, I scanned the room to see who was in it: the CIO, CEO and a few other bigwigs. I mentally estimated their total salaries to be north of $35 million.
"I looked at the person at the end of the table and he pointed to the equipment and said, 'It's broke. Fix it!'
"I replied 'Yessir' and walked over to it. After checking for the most obvious problems -- loose cables, unit not plugged in -- I decided to try the power button.
