Quiz! Can you name the 36 players to finish in the Ballon d’Or top three from 1995 to 2017?
The Ballon d’Or has grown to become the most prestigious individual award in football. Not bad for a gong that, before 1995, was just for the best European player and whose title – if we recall our French lessons – is the 'Balloon of Orbs'. Strange name for a football award, really, but still better than FIFA’s ludicrous ‘The Best’.Anyway, since 1995 and the Ballon d’Or going all international, it’s become the de facto seal of approval for the world’s best footballer in the past year. This month, it’s been in the news lots with a new winner announced – plus the man who finished in top spot in 2007 retiring from the game.So a perfect time to update this classic and test you on the past 23 winners, plus 46 players who’ve finished second and third. Don’t panic at the intimidating total of 69, however - there’s naturally several repeat entries (especially recently). It’s only actually 36 players you need to get. Now, eight minutes are on the clock and we’d love to know your score @FourFourTwo. Please put your golden balls on the line by challenging some friends too – surely they can’t top your mighty score. Good luck!(Note: Adblockers can stop you seeing our quizzes – please turn them off.
