An evening with Paul Merson, FourFourTwo and you remembering England vs Argentina at France 98

FourFourTwo’s celebration of ‘90s football continues with an evening with Paul Merson – and the world premier of a FourFourTwo Films documentary on England-Argentina 1998.The event, hosted on Monday, February 19 atCafe Football, marks the launch of the FourFourTwo Films World Cup Series. The first documentary looks back on that epic France 98 knockout clash between England and Argentina.Special guest Paul Merson, who played that night, will share his personal memories of this game in conversation with FourFourTwo’s Global Digital Editor, Gary Parkinson. There’ll be talk about precisely how terrifying it is to take part in a penalty shootout at the World Cup. There’ll be talk of David Beckham’s red card and That Goal By Michael Owen. There’ll doubtless be wistful what-might-have-beens. But there’ll also be genuine insight from someone who was there and did his bit. Then there’ll be the world premiere of the FourFourTwo Films documentary about that hazy, crazy night in Saint-Etienne. Interviewees including Sol Campbell, Nelson Vivas and Henry Winter take us through the game that had everything – great goals, a seminal sending-off, a controversially disallowed winner, penalty heartbreak and Mick Jagger.Following the screening and a break for food, FourFourTwo and Paul Merson will look ahead to this year’s tournament and England’s chances before taking questions from the floor. It promises to be an unforgettable night about an unforgettable night. It will be hosted at the Stratford Westfield outlet of Cafe Football, serving food described by Guardian restaurant critic Jay Rayner as “Shockingly good… a menu full of ludicrous joys”.Tickets are available via EventBrite and are expected to sell very quickly. There are just 130 places available: 90 seated at tables for £70 including three-course dinner, and 40 tickets in the bar area for £40 including hot finger-food snacks. All attendees will get a welcome drink, a copy of FourFourTwo’s “90s Special” magazine worth £4.99 – and a night of priceless memories.
