A Serbian opposition party formally lodged a complaint on Friday against alleged fraud by President Aleksandar Vucic's ruling party during parliamentary and local elections last month.

Since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, a team of archivists has been tirelessly sorting, pasting and reassembling documents that were destroyed by the Stasi, the East German secret police. Nicknamed the "Puzzle Women", these heroines of collective memory face the Herculean task of piecing together these files: the paper fragments are tiny, and the number of archivists is only a fraction of what would be required to complete the job without recourse to new technology. Meanwhile, the Stasi's victims are getting older, and time is running out.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels vowed fierce retaliation Friday for American and British strikes against them, further raising the prospect of a wider conflict in a region already beset by Israel's war in Gaza.  The bombardment — launched in response to a recent campaign of drone and missile attacks on commercial ships in the vital Red Sea — killed at least five people and wounded six, the Houthis said. German tabloid Bild reported Beckenbauer, who died on Sunday at the age of 78, was buried in the Perlacher Forest cemetery, just two kilometres from where he grew up in suburban Munich. Photographs showed Beckenbauer's coffin covered in flowers and carried through the snow-covered cemetery in the south of the Bavarian capital. French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday replaced his foreign minister but maintained other key figures in their posts in a reshuffle that tilted his cabinet to the right and left all top ministries in the hands of men. The secretary general of Macron's Renaissance party Stephane Sejourne, 38, was named foreign minister in place of Catherine Colonna, although other key ministers including Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire kept their posts.
