Winter Weather Warnings Issued for 3 States on First Day of Spring as 9 Inches of Snow, 50 mph Winds Approach
It's the first official day of spring, but three states are bracing for snow as Old Man Winter hangs on for dear life.
While a massive heat wave is bringing record heat to much of the Southwestern United States, a new forecast from the National Weather Service is calling for up to nine inches of snow across three states, with two states battling lake effect snow.
"The first system will bring wintry mixed precipitation to the northern Great Lakes and snow to New England today into tonight. Freezing rain may result in light ice accumulations in the northern Great Lakes this morning, and accumulating snow will be possible through tonight in the higher elevations of New England and downwind of Lake Superior," the National Weather Service said.

Alaska, New York, Vermont Bracing for Snow, Strong Winds
Alaska: A blizzard warning is in effect for Kaktovik, Point Thomson, and Flaxman Island as visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow with 50 mph winds hitting the region. Elsewhere in Glacier Bay-Eastern Chichagof Island-City and Borough of Sitka- Including the cities of Gustavus, Hoonah, Tenakee Springs, and Sitka up to nine inches of snow are in the forecast.
New York and Vermont: "A wet snowfall is anticipated today and could create slick driving conditions across portions of northern New York and north-central to northeastern Vermont. Heaviest snowfall will coincide with the late afternoon and evening commute for northeastern Vermont," the National Weather Service said.

Anywhere from two to six inches of snow is possible in the region leading to hazardous conditions that could impact the Friday evening commute.
The heaviest snow is expected to fall during commuting hours.
