Wisconsin Spot Ranked Among Best Lake Towns for 'Small-Town Resort Feel'
Summer is quickly approaching, and even though it still feels cold in parts of the U.S., Mother Nature is known for bringing steamy, hot temperatures to the country once June strikes.
One fun summer activity is visiting a quaint lake town and jumping in to cool down. Now, a believed Wisconsin spot has been named one of the best lake towns in the United States.
Travel and Leisure magazine has a feature out on Wednesday, April 8, discussing the absolute best lake towns in the country, ahead of the summer months. "For those people who thoroughly enjoy the lakefront lifestyle—watching the sunrise from the dock, morning swims, waterskiing, taking the boat to dinner—a full-time home by the water might be in the cards," they note in the feature, adding that some lake towns have more year-round appeal.
Wisconsin Town Named One of the Best Lake Towns Ahead of Summer Travel Season
The first lake town that they highlight among the best is Green Lake, Wisconsin. What's cool about this spot is that, according to the publication, even though it's a lake town, it's known for year-round fun.
"Residents are still able to stay active when snow and below-zero temperatures arrive, with snowmobiling, fat-tire biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing serving as popular pastimes," Travel and Leisure states. "There's also an engaged full-time community; expect events like chili cook-offs, festivals, live music and more."
Ginger Wilcox, president of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, adds that families have been spending their summers at the lake town since the 1800s and says that it has a small-town resort feel" but with a "distinctly sophisticated Chicago attitude."
The town's official website notes that the "quaint" town is located right on the shores of the lake and in the south-central area of Wisconsin, "only a two/three-hour drive from larger metropolitan cities within the state." So, the fact that it's near big cities makes it really attractive for a weekend getaway.
So, this is really a gem in Wisconsin and quite convenient for those in the Chicago area looking for a quick summer getaway. If you want to visit Green Lake this summer, though, act quickly, because reservations at area hotels tend to fill up early in the season.
