Mountain Dew Is Changing Its Name to ‘American Dew’
For the first time in nearly 80 years, one of America's most recognizable soda brands is getting a temporary identity makeover. Starting today, April 20, 2026, Mountain Dew is officially hitting shelves across the nation as "American Dew."
The limited-edition rebrand is the centerpiece of the "An American Original" campaign, a massive summer-long tribute to the brand's Tennessee roots and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
Mountain Dew: From Tennessee Hills to Nationwide Icon
The rebranding includes a nod to the year 1948, when two brothers in Tennessee perfected the high-caffeine citrus kick that would eventually become a global phenomenon.
“Since 1948, Mountain Dew has been defined by a bold, unapologetic taste born in Tennessee,” said Michael Smith, VP of Marketing for Mountain Dew, in a statement shared with Mens Journal. “American Dew is a tangible celebration of that story, created to mark this moment in a meaningful way.”
To drive the message home, the brand has introduced a new mascot: The Mountain Dude. In a fresh creative spot titled Hoedown, the Mountain Dude serves as a "connective thread," guiding fans through the grit and independence of the brand’s origin story.
How to Win $250 Cash
Mountain Dew is putting its money where its mouth is for the nation's 250th birthday. Along with the new "American Dew" cans and bottles, the brand has launched a massive sweepstakes giving fans the chance to win thousands of $250 cash prizes.
The logic behind the amount is simple: $250 for 250 years of American history. Fans can head to www.americandew.com from now until July 11, 2026, to enter for a chance to win. The limited-edition "American Dew" wrapped bottles and cans will be available nationwide throughout the summer, though they are expected to become collector's items quickly.
