EVANGELINE, La. (KLFY) -- The early morning rains caused some roads in Evangeline Parish to flood and with more rain on the way, officials are advising drivers to avoid high water.
Roads like Opelousas Road, Maggio Road, Clover Lane, Belaire Cove Road, and Rue Du Coton were shut down due to the high water. Now, with waters starting to recede, Evangeline Police Jury Vice President Kevin Veillon says the parish did not receive the worst of the weather.
"I did talk to a public works guy this morning and I believe we were spared the brunt of the flood," said Veillon.
Veillon says one of his vehicles got stuck in the water.
"I did have a car that got stranded on Rue Du Coton and it's not a good feeling," Veillon noted.
Veillon says crews are working overtime to make sure that everyone is safe.
"Our road crew and our public works and all of our region supervisors, they are on twenty-four-hour call, we are ready to get out there and help in any kind of way we can be safe. Good luck, and if y'all need please don't hesitate to call," said Veillon.
