LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Today is a rare day, so having a birthday on February 29 is worth celebrating.
Occurring only once every four years, February 29 is a rare birthday. Ochsner LGMC welcomed Twisha Nayak, born just after midnight. Anuja Sahasrabudhe and Prathiush Nayak welcomed the 7 pound, 11 ounce baby girl at 12:12 a.m.

Derrick Morris II, born at 7:21 a.m., joining their 2 siblings and parents, Alicia Goodley and Derrick Morris. The baby boy came in at 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

Not long after, at 8:45 a.m., Antonisha Walker and Brandon Haviland welcomed their first baby, Braxton Haviland, coming in at 6 pounds, 4 ounces.

Six babies total are expected to arrive before the end of the day. Ochsner LGMC is the largest birthing facility in the region.
At Our Lady of Lourdes Women's & Children's Hospital, the first to be welcomed on Feb. 29 was at 5:07 a.m.
Justin and Erin Lamkin met baby Mia later on around 11:45 a.m.

A few hours later, Brianna Hebert and Austin Menard welcomed baby Kaidyn.

These aren't the only births expected today, so more could be joining the "Leap Year" club.
