IBERIA PARISH, LA (KLFY) -- An Iberia Parish woman doesn't know where to turn after losing everything in a house fire.
Mary Ledet was living at her home for nearly 50 years but now has no place to live after her hot water heater caught fire, incinerating the entire house. The fire happened early in the morning on Feb. 27. Ledet says she was woken up in the middle of the night and was unable to see because of the smoke.
"I jumped up. I couldn't see to get out the door. I kept saying 'lord, help me, help me to find the doorknob,'" said Ledet.
She was able to get out the house in time before the fire took her with it, but many of Ledet's belongings were lost.
"My hearing aid, my eyeglasses and my teeth (dentures). I lost it all," said Ledet.
Ledet says four of her eight dogs lost their lives, leaving her devastated. She is asking for any type of help finding a new permanent place to call home.
"I know I need help. I don't know how, but the help of the lord. I guess he will show me the way."
A GoFundMe for to help Ledet find a new home can be found here.
