Fraudulent websites impersonating Austin's street parking app

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Several websites are pretending to be the City of Austin's Park ATX paid parking app, the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department said in a Monday newsletter.
A department spokesperson said the websites are impersonating Park ATX and asking for prospective users' credit card information without actually booking them a parking session.
Transportation officials said there are two fraudulent websites involved — am5.com and getapp4free.com. One of those websites was responsible for a previous fraudulent website impersonating Park ATX in early January, the spokesperson confirmed.
Those looking to use Park ATX are advised to only download the official app from sources like Google Play, Apple's App Store, or from ParkATXapp.com or austintexas.gov/ParkATX. The spokesperson added the department has reported the fake websites to Google but said sponsored advertisements continue to promote the fraudulent websites online.
