Man armed with edged weapon fatally shot by police in a California Home Depot
The man, whose identity was not immediately released, armed himself with an edged weapon before he was fatally shot by police and pronounced dead at the scene.
A man was fatally shot by police inside a Home Depot in Fontana on Monday evening, police said.
Around 6 p.m., officers from the Fontana Police Department initially responded to multiple reports of a man running into a main road on Santa Ana Avenue and Sierra Avenue, where he appeared to be trying to get hit by a car, Officer Steven Reed said. A police pursuit ensued and the man ran inside a nearby Home Depot store, at 16783 Santa Ana Avenue.
The man, whose identity was not immediately released, armed himself with an edged weapon before he was fatally shot by police and pronounced dead at the scene, Reed said.
Police did not immediately provide a detailed description of the weapon or further describe the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
No other injuries to civilians or officers were reported.
